Fashionably Late 2 Submissions Call
Eldredge Books is currently accepting submissions for the second volume of Fashionably Late, a nonfiction anthology featuring LQBTQIA+ people who came out later in life.
We want to hear about the challenges and joys you faced as part of your journey. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Coming out during the pandemic
- Breaking free of gender norms
- Finding your place in the LGBTQIA+ community
- Dating while newly out
- Coming out in a conservative environment
- Redefining relationships with your family
- Breaking old taboos
- Second coming outs (e.g. coming out as trans after years of being out as gay)
- The impact of intersectional identities on your coming out
- Dealing with religious trauma
Submissions are open to all LGBTQIA+ writers who came out later in life (generally defined as after the age of thirty). All stories must be true and the original work of the author (no AI written stories will be accepted). Your submission may be previously published elsewhere; however, a strong preference is given to original work. If your work is published elsewhere, you must be able to demonstrate that you own the rights to reprint the work.
Please limit your submission to 5,000 words.
The submission deadline is November 28, 2025.
The book is tentatively scheduled to release March of 2027.
The collection will be edited by Portland-based editor and writer, Vinnie Kinsella, who edited the first volume of Fashionably Late.
Please submit your story via Doutrope. Along with your submission, please include a brief (1–3 sentences) synopsis of your submission and a brief author bio highlighting any previous writing experience you have.
If your story is chosen for publication, you will receive a stipend of $50 (USD) for your work, two free copies of the anthology, and the right to purchase further copies at the wholesale price.
